A new study by financial firm, More Than, claims that 1 in 5 British motorists have admitted to driving while under the influence of drugs.
According to this newspaper report, people are now calling Brits the worst “drug-drivers” in Europe and demanding the introduction of drug testing devices for drivers such as those used in Germany and Switzerland.
It kind of reminds us of the terrible joke - Don’t drink and drive, take drugs and fly.
But seriously, the study revealed a few alarming attitudes, such as that 40% of drug users don’t believe that being under the influence of drugs affects their driving ability. That doesn’t quite gel with the other finding that one-in-14 have actually had a car accident while driving under the influence of drugs.
Interestingly, 94% of those surveyed said they would not drive under the infuence of alcohol.
This basically means that the education programs surrounding the use of alcohol and drink-driving are working, while the education programs surrounding the use of drugs and drug-driving are non-existent.
A gap in education perhaps?
