Eunice “Son” Johnson, a 74-year-old man from Smith County, Texas, has pleaded guilty to charges of distributing crack cocaine, just before the start of his trial. He now faces the prospect of spending 20 years in prison and up to a $1 million fine. A sentencing date is still to be determined.
Johnson was caught in December 2004 after an informant, who was wearing a wire, gave him $1,000 to purchase and then deliver him some crack. He, along with three others, was indicted for conspiracy to possess and distribute more than five grams of crack. Johnson admitted this was not the first time he had delivered drugs that year.
