Andy Ivison

Andy Ivison was so afraid of becoming addicted to the easily available drugs in prison, that he escaped!

Ivison was recently re-apprehended after spending four days on the run and had this very curious, if somewhat alarming excuse.

The former heroin addict was intially jailed for robbery and was unhappy with his accommodations in Sping Hill prison in Buckinghamshire, UK.

According to the prosecuting attorney, Ivison was planning on giving himself up to police again, but was waiting so that he could watch the England vs. Sweden match of the World Cup.

While all of this may seem somewhat amusing, the credibility of Andy Ivison’s claims must be held in some doubt. It would be a stretch to suggest that drugs were any less available on the outside of prisons in the UK than they are on the inside. More likely Ivison had other reasons for his escape.

But it does also bring the spotlight back onto the issue of drugs in prisons and how they get there. Sure it may be possible to smuggle paraphenalia into prisons, but at what point does the spotlight start to fall on possible collusion with thos supposed to be guarding the prisoners.

Andy Ivison will find drugs wherever he goes.
