200kg of cocaine has been seized from a cargo vessel at a port in Panvel, around 65 km from Mumbai in western India. Authorities say that it is the largest cocaine bust ever in India and is worth between 800,000 million rupees (US$17.5 million) and 900,000 million rupees (US$19.7 million). According to the head of the Narcotics Control Bureau it was the culmination of a month and a half operation resulting from a tip off overseas. The ship had been en route from South Africa to India via Hong Kong, and is said to have originated in Colombia. The cocaine had been hidden amongst logs of teak that were being imported.
