Smuggling

Daisy Angus - Drug Mule Jailed in India

Daisy Angus26 year old British backpacker, Daisy Angus, has been sentenced in India for attempting to smuggle 10kg of cannabis out of the country.

Angus, of Bournemouth in the UK, received sentencing on June 21, but having already spent 4 years in a Mumbai jail will only be required to serve an additional six years.

Angus, who was 22 at the time, was reportedly apprehended attempting to leave the country with a suitcase that contained the cannabis.

Initially she claimed that the suitcase had been given to her at Mumbai Airport by an associate and fellow traveler after her own luggage broke. Yoram Kadesh, the 37 year old Israeli who had given her the suitcase was later released from custody due to lack of evidence to convict him.

Later Angus admitted to suspecting the suitcase did indeed contain drugs.

Again, unfortunately it seems we have a classic drug mule scenario where the mule is perhaps not intelligent enough to question the situation adequately despite the plethora of warnings about similar scams, not to mention the continual media coverage of equal misfortunes leading to stiff penalties.

While it may seem obvious to many people, it is perhaps further necessary to repeat the warnings at airports about taking other people’s luggage through customs.

Daisy Angus obviously needed the extra warning.
