Fat chance

Obesity and all of the implications and complications with regards to its impact on an individual’s health may have one and only one upside. If you’re obese you may be less apt to indulge in substance abuse. Unfortunately though this is a miniscule benefit, as obese folks tend to have other major behavioral issues. Among them depression, anxiety (General and Panic) bipolar, agoraphobia and yes substance abuse disorders (But a 22% lower risk!). None of these symptoms were found to be gender specific, though race and education were found to be factors.

The really sticky issue was more of cause and effect, the equation being either obese=depressed or depressed=obese. More than likely it swings both ways, but please allow me to extrapolate. Maybe we’re all missing the boat here and it’s really drugs and booze that help cure mood disorders (I’ve never been in doubt), and face it drugs could also (Meth for example) be used to cure obesity! Because Meth increases metabolism and curbs your appetite so it would stand to reason that fewer fat people are on drugs. Duh!

Face it, the true picture that tends to come to mind with a drug addict is skinny and sallow not corpulent and rotund.
