Some terrorist groups make an income from the drug trade.
The profitability of the drug trade is at least partiallly guaranteed by the War on Drug and the strategies it employs.
Legalising drugs would diminish the profitability of drugs (that’s a widely held view anyway).
Therefor would you support the legalisation of drugs as part of the War on Terror?
It’s late here and perhaps there should be a war on my logic.
Opinions?
Thinking aloud
I think it depends on the drug and perhaps the terrorists or group invovlved. Coke and opium are the the drugs that first come to mind. Even if both were legal, since they are grown predominately in areas that have direct links to terror groups it stands to reason they would still gain from sales whether legal or not. I’m thinking of the major growing areas like A-Stan and Colombia in particular. Myanmar, Turkey, Peru and Bolivia to a lesser degree.
Other drugs like Cannabis and Speed/Meth/Yaba could (more unlikely though) be used if a terror group wanted to be more creative with the profit making enterprises, even less so if they were legalized which in the case of Meth I never see happening.
That’s my intial gut take.
