World Record Drifters Were After Cocaine?

08.26.06 | Comment? | Published by Luke Brown

In a strange tale, three Mexican fisherman who had been drifting in a boat accross the Pacific Ocean for nine months have now been accused in their home country of being after drugs.

According to the fishermen, they were on a trip to do some shark fishing when they ran out of fuel for the two outboards on their 27 foot vessel. They subsequently began to drift west accross the Pacific during which time two of the five crewmen persished.

After nine months they were picked up by a Taiwanese fishing trawler and flown home to Mexico.

Now, however, the three survivors have hit the media spotlight and the accusations have begun to start flying.

Chief among those accusations is that the fishing party were actually not fishing at all, but rather were looking for bundles of cocaine. It is common practice in the are they went missing from for drug dealers to contract fishermen to scout for cocaine bundles dropped from passing ships and these guys were actually fulfilling a contract for somebody they know only as “Juan.”

The fishermen however, say they are happy to take a lie detector test to prove their accusors wrong.

An interesting twist to the tale of accidental world record holders.
